How Monroe Arrests Work
Monroe wears two hats. It is the Union County seat. It also runs its own municipal police force for a city of 34,562 people counted in the 2020 Census. City officers investigate and document incidents inside the limits. Booking, though, happens at Union County Detention Center. So a single Monroe arrest can generate a city report plus a county booking record tied to the same event but never interchangeable. A "Monroe arrest" may also mean a sheriff event at a Monroe address. Read the booking-agency, officer, and case fields before assuming Monroe Police handled it. Someone cited and released without county booking may appear in a city report. That person may never touch a jail roster. The reverse happens too. A person booked in Monroe might have been arrested anywhere in Union County.
A Monroe arrest begins with booking. The booking record shows the charge and the arrest date. Court filings tell the rest of the story later.
Where Monroe Arrests Are Published
Monroe publishes no city booking roster or daily arrest blotter. The Records Division handles incident and arrest reports. For current custody, county P2C offers the roster, event search, and a date-selected bulletin. Start with those official sources.
| Channel | Record and access | Authority |
|---|---|---|
| Monroe Records Division | Incident and arrest reports online, in person, or by email; specified copies are free | Official city |
| Inmate Inquiry | County roster with name, primary charge, arrest date, booking agency, and details | Official UCSO |
| Daily Bulletin | Date-selected arrests, citations, incidents, and ordinance events | Official UCSO |
| eCourts Portal | Public court case status after the initial record | Official state court |
| RecentlyBooked Union | Private county republication, not a city or sheriff source | Unofficial and potentially stale |
Monroe publishes no official mugshot gallery. P2C may attach an image control to a single record. That is the closest thing to one. Private sites post names, charges, dates, or booking photos. Their content can be delayed or mismatched, so check the official source. No booking images are rehosted here.
Find a Monroe Arrest Record
Pick the source that matches the fact you need. The city report describes the police event itself. The booking record documents intake, the roster covers current county custody, and the court docket tracks what followed.
- Check Arrests Last 24 Hours and isolate AR entries from the Daily Bulletin’s other event types.
- Search county Inmate Inquiry by first and last name for a person believed to be held.
- Use the sheriff’s Arrest/Incident Search for a case number, location, date, or event record.
- Request the Monroe Police arrest or incident report when Monroe PD handled the occurrence.
- Move to the Police Blotter for other selectable bulletin dates.
- Use eCourts for the later charge, calendar, bond, dismissal, plea, or judgment.
The Union County recent-arrest hub compares these county sources in more depth. A roster search can come up empty. That may mean release, transfer, a different spelling, or no county booking at all.
Monroe Police Arrest Reports
Getting an incident or arrest report from Monroe police starts with the Records Division. Three channels exist. Search online, visit Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or email kfunderburk@monroenc.org. A request can cite the report number, a person's name, or the location and date of the incident. Copies are free, the department says, but none can be faxed.
The Records office sits at 450 W. Crowell Street, Monroe, NC 28112. Its direct line is 704-282-4728. For general police business, call 704-282-4700. Non-emergency dispatch answers at 704-289-1591. These numbers serve city documents only. A booking sheet, detention release record, or booking photo held at the county level belongs instead to the Union County Sheriff's Office or the Union County Detention Center as custodian.
That free-copy promise covers the specified city reports alone. It does not extend to every image, compilation, or county detention file. Monroe handles public-record requests first-come and typically answers within four weeks, though that timing is not a guarantee for every police report or photograph.
Three Routes to Monroe Records
The online, in-person, and email routes are Monroe's handiest city-specific tools. Pick the route that fits. Online search rewards known facts about the event. A visit lets staff sort out a report number or location question. That help is available during posted Records Division hours. Email leaves a written trail. It can describe exactly which document you want. In every case, name the record itself. Do not ask for a custom list of people. The city's official Police Department page confirms the separate municipal agency.

These municipal contacts keep city event reports separate from county jail custody.
Monroe Arrests Versus Crime Maps
Monroe's police quick links include a Crime Incident Map. A map shows where incidents happened. It is not an arrest roster or booking database. Pins may mark an incident by place and date without showing that anyone actually entered jail, so they cannot count Monroe arrests or reveal who is in custody. The official Monroe police quick-links page shows the available map route.

A dot on a crime map never proves an arrest, so weigh each plotted event against Monroe booking data before trusting it.
Monroe Booking and Photo Requests
Union County handles booking records through its Public Record Request page. That page sets up a formal request. Give the person's full name and birth date if known. Add the arrest or booking date, case or booking number, and arresting agency. Union County detention and Monroe Police can each hold a piece of the file, so name both custodians when you are unsure which office keeps the exact record you want, and state your preferred electronic format.
The county answers requests promptly where it can. Complicated requests take longer. Copies may carry fees. Work that passes four collective staff hours can run $40 per hour, charged only after the first four hours, with an estimate and advance payment required. Monroe Police still gives out free copies of specified reports.
North Carolina law keeps some investigative material closed even when the arrest itself is public. Ask for a particular record and expect lawful redaction. A photo appearing on P2C only proves current display in that interface, not permanent availability or permission to republish the image.
Follow Monroe Arrest Cases
Booking is only step one. After that, the Union County court page and the eCourts Portal carry a Monroe case forward. Search by name, citation, county, or other case details. You may see a first appearance, calendars, bond changes, a dismissal, a plea, or a judgment. A booking date and a court date are separate events. For custody alerts, VINELink Custody Check ties into NC SAVAN, which sends opt-in notices about participating county and state custody changes, though direct confirmation still matters. Someone sentenced into state prison or supervision belongs in the NCDAC offender search instead. That tool tracks inmates and supervised people statewide.
Monroe Arrest News Context
News fills in what a roster skips. The Enquirer-Journal's NewsBank archive reaches back to 2009 for Monroe and Union County coverage, though a subscription may be needed. The UCSO news list and Union County Weekly add selected local stories. Still, news is context. It cannot replace the police report, the booking source, or the live court docket.
Private sites like RecentlyBooked, Arrests.org, Mugshots.com, Mugshots.zone, and Muglist are not official either. Their "recent" labels are private math. Counts and update timing vary. Check the city, sheriff, detention, and court channels first, then verify anything a private page tells you.
Older Monroe research opens other doors. DigitalNC lists historic Union County newspapers. The State Archives catalog points to selected transferred government records. Both are historical channels rather than current arrest feeds, so search with a name, agency, date range, and case clue, and never assume an old story included the final court result.
