Check Union County VINELink

A VINELink Union County lookup serves victims, family, and friends. It checks whether someone is in custody after an arrest. North Carolina runs its version under the name NC SAVAN. It pairs custody status with optional alerts about release, transfer, or escape. County and state systems are covered. The sheriff's live jail roster and federal custody sit outside it. Start with the right person and agency, then add alerts if ongoing notice matters. That is the whole idea.

Union County VINELink Coverage

North Carolina's service goes by NC SAVAN, short for Statewide Automated Victim Assistance and Notification. The Department of Adult Correction runs it. According to the department, the program electronically links every county jail with prison, probation, and parole systems, which puts the Union County Detention Center inside its coverage design. Union County publishes no separate participation page. Results still depend on the facility sending data and on picking the correct person and agency.

This service differs from the Union County Sheriff's Office Inmate Inquiry. Inmate Inquiry shows directly who may be held at the county detention center right now. NC SAVAN instead adds an opt-in notification layer that can follow a person into state custody or supervision. It may miss someone held only at a local police facility. A person who bonds out at a magistrate's office without entering jail data may never appear. Juvenile and mental-health facilities fall outside its stated scope too.

The official NC SAVAN overview presents the statewide service.

Union County Custody Fields

A VINELink result identifies a person and summarizes custody. It does not reproduce a full arrest file. Details vary by agency and record, so read the result as a status snapshot. The originating agency holds the formal record.

FieldHow to use it
Person or custody IDSeparates people with similar names and helps locate the same person after an agency transfer.
Custody statusShows the status transmitted to the service. It can lag a very recent booking or move.
Facility or agencyConfirms whether the record points to Union County, another jail, or a state correctional agency.
Custody changeMay support notice of release, transfer, escape, capture, or another reported status event.
Contact registrationRecords selected phone or email channels for alerts; it is not part of the public custody record.

"Released" describes custody, not a court result. "Transferred" means another agency may now control the record. For filed charges and hearings, use the Union County court page and the state court portal. The clerk can confirm case details.

Register Union County Release Alerts

Victims, relatives, friends, and other concerned people may all register. NC SAVAN handles the custody notices. Registration stays anonymous. Court-event notifications are a separate category reserved for statutory crime victims. Several phone numbers and email addresses can be entered. A registrant picks practical contact routes.

  1. Open the correct person record in North Carolina VINELink.
  2. Choose the registration or notification option for that record.
  3. Select the correct facility, agency, and person or custody ID.
  4. Add desired phone numbers or email addresses and confirm each channel.
  5. Create a personal identification number, or PIN, when prompted. Keep it available to confirm phone notifications.
  6. Review the chosen custody events and complete the confirmation prompts.

The PIN is part of alert handling. It is not identity proof. Keep it private. It also grants no access to a private case file. If the person moves to another participating agency, follow the notice. Register again under the new agency or person ID when instructed. An alert tied only to the old record may not carry over after a transfer.

How NC SAVAN Retries Alerts

Timing depends on the event and contact method. Ordinary phone notices run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Miss one, and NC SAVAN leaves a message. It then retries every two hours within that window for up to 24 hours. Critical release, escape, or capture calls can come at any hour. They retry every 30 minutes for a day.

Email behaves differently. One message goes out per reported status change, not on the phone schedule. Listing several contacts reduces reliance on a single device, though no channel is guaranteed. Old numbers, blocked calls, full voicemail, spam filters, and delayed source data can each block timely notice. Even so, multiple contacts spread the risk.

The official NC SAVAN instructions explain anonymity, PINs, retries, and transfer handling.

Union County Transfer Follow-Up

A move between agencies changes the holder and sometimes the identifier VINELink uses. So a Union County result can disappear even when no release happened. Read the alert for the destination agency. Then search under that agency or the new person ID. Re-register if the system asks you to. After a state sentence, switch to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction Offender Public Information search, which covers prison, probation, and parole records rather than the county booking feed.

Still stuck? Call the Union County Sheriff's Office at 704-283-3789. The county office directory can confirm the current detention line too, since official pages list several detention numbers and routing changes over time. A custody clerk sorts out which agency holds the person. Case progress and disposition, though, live in the court record.

Federal Custody Needs Separate Checks

Federal custody sits outside NC SAVAN entirely. Neither Bureau of Prisons nor immigration holds appear there. For federal inmates, the BOP Inmate Locator is a separate search covering people incarcerated from 1982 to the present. You can query it with a register number in the five-digit, hyphen, three-digit format, or with a name plus identity filters. Its data refreshes daily, unlike a county booking feed. Federal pretrial detainees can be just as tricky. The U.S. Marshals Service moves them through contracted facilities and transfers, so they may not read like sentenced inmates.

An immigration hold needs the ICE Online Detainee Locator. It covers people in ICE custody now or held by Customs and Border Protection past 48 hours. Search with a nine-digit A-number plus country of birth. Name searches need exact spelling, birth country, and birth date. Minors are excluded. An ICE hit proves nothing about Union County charges either way.

Confirm Union County Custody

VINELink only reflects data the holding agency sends. Fresh bookings, releases, and transfers can lag. Precinct holding spots go unmonitored too. Delivery of alerts depends on carriers and email providers, so the system cannot guarantee a message arrives. The state itself tells users not to lean on the service alone for protection. Act as though the person is already released.

Use a layered check. Union County Inmate Inquiry answers who is in county custody right now. VINELink handles notifications, while the holding agency confirms anything urgent. Courts hold the case outcome. BOP and ICE apply only when federal or immigration custody truly matters.

Phone help never sleeps. NC SAVAN answers around the clock at 1-877-NC SAVAN (1-877-627-2826), and North Carolina Victim Support Services posts 1-866-719-0108. The line works well when the website is down. Callers still need a full name or identifier to pick the right person.
